Happy Tuesday, BFA Fam: For all my doom-scrollers out there, the clock is tick-tick-ticking on TikTok. Three federal judges unanimously rejected TikTok's free-speech lawsuit aimed at overturning the divest-or-ban bill, paving the way for TikTok to potentially be banned in the U.S. on January 19th due to national security concerns. On Monday, TikTok filed for an injunction in order to hold off the deadline until its appeal can be heard by the Supreme Court. We shall wait and see…

MAIN STORY
Is Drake Following Michael Jackson’s Legal Legacy?
The Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud has always been the stuff of hip-hop legend—a cold war simmering for years, with sly jabs and subtle disses keeping fans on edge. But this summer? It erupted into a full-blown rap battle, and it’s already being hailed as one of the most infamous moments in hip-hop history.
Not Like Us: The Track That Sparked a Legal Firestorm
At the center of it all is Kendrick’s hard-hitting track Not Like Us. The West Coast anthem, with its slick beat and razor-sharp bars, landed like a knockout punch, leaving many fans and critics declaring Kendrick the winner of this long-running rivalry. Even Apple Music crowned the diss track their Global Song of the Year.
Drake, however, isn’t just taking this lying down. On November 25th, his company Frozen Moments dropped a legal bombshell, suing Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify for an alleged “illegal scheme” involving payola, bots, and other underhanded tactics to boost streams for Kendrick’s diss track. And here’s the kicker: Drake is reportedly seeking upwards of $2 billion in damages. Yes, billion with a B.
Echoes of Michael Jackson’s Sony Battle
This lawsuit is giving some serious déjà vu vibes to another industry giant’s battle—Michael Jackson’s infamous fight with Sony. Back in the day, MJ accused the label of sabotaging his Invincible album and shady accounting practices, all in a ploy to devalue his stake in their joint music catalog. Jackson believed the goal was to buy out his share on the cheap. Drake’s case has echoes of this, with accusations that boosting a song designed to tear him down could undercut the value of his brand and future earnings.
Adding more intrigue to the mix, hip-hop insider DJ Akademiks speculates that this drama comes at a pivotal moment for Drake. While he reportedly signed a $400 million mega-deal with UMG in 2022, DJ Akademiks suggests Drake might be negotiating an even bigger deal now. And let’s face it: having a diss track that takes aim at your credibility go viral during contract talks? Not exactly the leverage you’d want.
Era: Jackson’s fight was in the CD era; Drake’s is in the streaming age.
Focus: Jackson fought for ownership; Drake disputes financial manipulation.
Perception: Jackson’s battle was seen as revolutionary; Drake’s is viewed as self-serving.
Context: Jackson’s case lacked media scrutiny; Drake’s unfolds under social media’s spotlight.
This saga feels like more than just another rap beef—it’s a chess match involving billions of dollars, legacy, and the ever-changing landscape of hip-hop power. Whether you're Team Kendrick, Team Drake, or just here for the drama, one thing’s for sure: this story isn’t over yet. (In the meantime, let’s take this time to revisit Drake live singing 24 by Kanye West)

Jay-Z and Diddy Face Shocking Allegations in Amended Teen Rape Lawsuit
Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs are accused in a lawsuit of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000 after the MTV Music Video Awards. The plaintiff alleges she was drugged and assaulted at an after-party. Jay-Z denies the claims, calling them “idiotic,” while Combs’ team labeled the lawsuit a “publicity stunt.”
