From Hired to Fired: Gen Z's Short-Lived Corporate Careers

Generation Z is facing significant challenges as they attempt to enter the job market. Many young professionals from this generation are finding it difficult to secure stable employment, and those who do manage are getting fired at alarming rates. The swift dismissal of Gen Z employees across various companies isn’t unexpected, given that employers have been voicing concerns for years about the challenges of working with this generation. However, the sheer scale of these layoffs paints a troubling picture for the future of the workforce.

The Gen Z mass firing was revealed in a recent survey that showed that six in ten employers have already fired college graduates who were hired this year. According to recent surveys, the primary reason for the rapid termination of Gen Z workers is their perceived lack of motivation, with half of the surveyed employers highlighting this issue. Additionally, these employees often face criticism for unprofessional behavior, poor organizational and communication skills, struggles with receiving feedback, limited work experience, and below-par problem-solving skills.

These 3 essential steps can help Gen Z thrive in their first job while staying authentic to their values in both their career and educational paths:

  1. Focus on learning before contributing. Understand the workflow by attending key meetings, scheduling weekly check-ins with your manager, and connecting with a work buddy. Ask about the biggest challenges and expectations for your first quarter.

  2. Build rapport by mirroring team behaviors— Adapt to their microculture first; it’s about connecting, not being insincere.

  3. Don’t try to be the ‘cool colleague.’ Focus on being reliable; respect will lead to genuine friendships naturally.

The Current Job Marking is Bumming Everyone Out.

In September, people started feeling a bit more uneasy about the job market, hitting a three-month low in confidence, as reported by the National Association of Home Builders. Even though the overall job situation is still pretty stable, recent updates revealed that fewer jobs were created in 2023 than we first thought. On the bright side, unemployment rates are still low, and wages are growing faster than inflation.

Electric Cars or Fire Starters? Florida's Wake-Up Call After Hurricane Helene

Are you thinking about buying an electric vehicle any time soon? Well, you might want to consider one thing: your vehicle might catch if there is ever a hurricane. The combination of saltwater and lithium-ion batteries in vehicles has become a dangerous mix for those dealing with numerous fires following Hurricane Helene. Check out the video evidence here.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue is urging residents with electric vehicles to avoid charging or driving them if they’ve been exposed to saltwater.

The risk doesn’t disappear once the storm passes. Officials warn that fires can occur days or even weeks later, and this applies to golf carts as well.

In a Facebook post, SPFR stated, "Saltwater flooding can cause hidden damage to your electric vehicle’s battery, even if it seems fine. This corrosion can lead to dangerous fires days or weeks down the line."

Electric Vehicles Sales are Still Going Strong

Electric vehicle sales in the U.S. are projected to rise by 8% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to Q3 2023, bringing EVs to nearly 9% of the market share, according to Stephanie Valdez Streaty, director of industry insights at Cox Automotive, during the firm's industry insights and sales forecast call.

Meanwhile, used EV sales are expected to surge by 69%, increasing EVs' share of the used car market to about 1.7%.

Tesla is still the top player when it comes to both new and used electric vehicle sales, according to Valdez Streaty. However, Cox Automotive predicts that Tesla might see a slight dip, with a 2.4% decrease compared to last year and a 7% drop from the previous quarter, as the competition in the EV market heats up.
